Pink Vase

Description

This stoneware vase was made in two parts. The bottom was thrown, the top was a slab that had texture rolled into it, and then added on top of the thrown cup. It was part of a demo I was showing some pottery students of mine on how to make a bigger pot when you are still trying to master throwing on the wheel. It is about 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It has a soft pink glaze on the bottom. On the top half, I used dark pink underglaze to highlight the texture, and then put the soft pink over it. What resulted was a slightly more purplish tinged top half. It is barely noticeable, but enough to give added visual interest. The top also has a pie crust crimped edge. The vase would look good holding delphiniums or daffodils, or any longer stemmed not too heavy flower.
