Description

I have no idea what to call this. It is a luminaire, vase, work of art…whatever you want it to be. It is a continuation on of my journey combining pottery with lampwork glass. It is made from an extruded tube of clay, made on an oversized play-do type extruder, and then mounted on a thrown base. Two thrown jars are added on the top of the tubes – each one hand carved with a leaf design. Strung between the tubes are glass beads, all properly annealed, of black and white glass. There are approximately 40 beads of different designs. It is glazed a glossy white and is about 17 inches in height, and 10 inches wide at its widest point, and its base has about a 4 inch wide circumference.  I use an elastic band on top of the tubes before putting on the luminaire to have a very tight fit, without the grinding of clay on clay. The clay I use is a recycled clay from my classes, so it has a speckle, but not as much as a speckled clay since it is mixed with my white clay.
