Jar – Bursting at the seams

Description

This stoneware jar is about 10 inches tall and 8 inches wide at its widest part. It holds about 7 cups. It would make a good canister or vase – if used without the lid. I can see it filled with peonies. It was made using sodium silicate, which is applied to the clay while wet, and when stretched, it causes the very top layer of clay to crack. Strips of clay with the geometrical design were added laterally to the jar. Dark blue glaze was used to highlight the texture of the pot. It has a matte surface with a slight sheen. This jar is available for purchase at my studio located in the Prescott Community Center.  It is dishwasher safe, microwavable and ovenproof if protected from thermal shock.
